Thaakka Thaakka Plot:

Sathya, played by Vikranth, experiences a horrible childhood as he grows up watching his helpless mother after she is forcefully drafted into the world of human trafficking.

Bala, played by Arul Dass, who had earlier pushed Sathya's mother into his business of prostitution, kills her unintentionally and thereby orphaning Sathya.

Not knowing how to go about his life, he ends up in Chennai and aims at starting life afresh. But, in a cinematic twist he once again comes in contact with the man responsible for his mother's death, giving rise to vengeance which turns this flick into a revenge drama.

Performances:

Vikranth shines in the action sequences, making us believe that he is indeed an action hero. Otherwise too his acting skills are pretty decent.

Abhinaya has come up with a neat performance but special mention goes to one of the baddies, Arul Dass of Soodhu Kavvum fame, for stitching together a captivating performance.

Technicalities:

Thaakka Thaakka is technically solid, barring its lacklustre and slow screenplay which spoils the fun and hampers the uniqueness with which this film is treated, though being a revenge drama.

Easily, the stand out performer in the technical department is the film's cinematographer, Sujith Sarang. He has managed to capture the nuances of each and every scene, especially in those scenes shot during the dusk.

While songs may irritate you a touch, background score by Jakes Bejoy is decent enough for a action drama. In fact, Vikranth's screen presence in some scenes is elevated purely because of the BGM.

Overall View:

Thaakka Thaakka is an honest attempt by its director Sanjeev. Having said that, ordinary screenplay turns it into a mundane flick.

Thani Oruvan Plot:

The movie deals with a basic concept of good vs evil which has been narrated in an unique style. Jayam Ravi plays an upright IPS officer whose priority is to safeguard the serenity of his town.

On the other hand Arvind Swamy has played the baddie who deceives others with his charming looks, subsequently making them fall into his trap.

A game of cat and mouse ensues between Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swamy after the latter's menace reaches an unbearable height. But this battle is more of a psychological clash which makes this film quite interesting.

Performances:

All the lead actors including Mugdha Godse have delivered the goods. Arvind Swamy's body language is something that you may find interesting throughout the film and his dialogue delivery is an added advantage.

Special mention goes to Nayantara, for she deserves it. The talented actress has yet again proved her worth with her subtle and clever expressions.

Supporting cast of Ganesh Venkatraman, Harish Uthaman and Sricharan have played their respective part in an efficient manner while Vamsi Krishna looks way too rigid for one's liking.

Kudos to the director for assembling a near perfect cast with Thambi Ramaiah being the only exception as his role is a slight mismatch in a movie like Thani Oruvan.

Technicalities:

Thani Oruvan is a technically strong film. Intriguing screenplay backed by engaging background score forms a lethal combination. Both first as well as second halves are fresh and manages to keep you hooked.

Ramji's cinematography adds stability and also enhances the overall feel of the film. Colors too have been used brilliantly as the team has managed to give us a feeling that they sure know where to draw the line in order to make the pictures look sleek and truly international.

While Gopikrishna's cuts are sharp enough, he could've perhaps shortened the overall length of the film as 2 hours and 38 minutes is slightly on the longer side for a thriller.

Overall View:

Thani Oruvan is a classified thriller which is new to Tamil cinema. The whole team deserves a pat on their back for pulling off a new age cinema while keeping all the commercial elements intact.

Kick 2 Story:

Kick 2 struggled to maintain the basic essence of its prequel but has taken a different route in the lead character's portrayal. While it's all about Kick in the previous version, now you get to meet a person who put his comfort on the top.

Where did his obsession for comfort take him? What role does Bilaspur village and its people play in his life? Did he stand for his comfort through out? This forms the crux of the story.  

Performances:

Ravi Teja gets another tailor made role to play and he delivers a vibrant performance with his unusual timing and amazing screen presence. He has taken the film to a new level with his energies while Brahmanandam completely complemented him in the first half. 

Rakul Preet Singh gets a whole new characterization and the long legged lass pulled it off effortlessly. Ravi Kishan though enacted his role perfectly, his terrible lip sync might spoil the things for you if you are a keen observer.

Technical Aspects:

Director Surrender Reddy appears to have lost somewhere between the pressure of delivering a different concept like Kick and in dealing the idea of 'comfort'.

Music By S S Thaman stands out and he once again proves his special love for Ravi Teja. Though the placement of couple of songs were bad, songs filled in the extra energy while back ground score increased the tempo. 

Editor Gautam Raju should have put his scissors to best use to avoid lengthy comedy episodes. Cinematography by Manoj Paramhamsa, NTR Arts production values and especially DI of the film were absolutely top notch. 

Overview:

Tollywood appears to have missed a hat-trick with Kick 2 after blockbusters likeBaahubali and Srimanthudu. But it did not miss its winning streak. Kick 2 comes out as a winner if you are comfortable watching the same old slapstick comedy and emotional drama, with a bit of twist here and there.

Jigina Plot:

Vijay Vasanth plays an average looking guy who keeps ruing the fact that he is dark-complexioned and hence develops a strong inferiority complex.

In an attempt to get himself a girlfriend, he creates a fake profile in the social networking site Facebook, with somebody else's photo and an alluring job profile as suggested by a group of IT employees.

The plans works as he is able to woo a good looking girl, played by Sanyathara. But what happens when they finally meet in person? Also, there is another guy who is trying to hunt down Sanyathara. What does he want and what are the consequences of creating a fake profile in Facebook?

All these questions are answered in Jigina which turns out to be a bit preachy and melodramatic. Having said that, director Ravi Nanda Periyasamy's attempt to deliver a message in his film is noteworthy.

Performances:

Vijay Vasanth has delivered a decent performance however, his acting is far from what can be termed as a refined one. New comer Sanyathara's expressions were believable and also alluring at the same time.

When it comes to performances, comedians Singam Puli and Ashvin Raja of Kumki  fame walk away with all the accolades.

Technicalities:

While the movie takes its time to settle down in the first half which entertains partially, the second half is aimed at making the film racy and the director has almost managed to achieve what he initially set out to do.

John Peter's BGM fails to support the film throughout. A couple of songs though have come out really well and achieves in making your foot tap. Cinematography is above average as it has contributed to the overall feel of the film.

Overall View:

With a good plot and a strong social message, Jigina is a watchable entertainer.

Puli Trailer Reaches 2 Million Views, On Its Way To Break All Records!

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Puli  trailer was released on 20th of August at the stroke of midnight. Now, in less than 48 hours, the 1 min 53 sec video has garnered a whopping 63,527 likes and has reached the coveted 2 million mark when it comes to the total number of views.

The numbers achieved by the trailer is no mean feat and the fact that it has accomplished it in such a short period of time is mind-blowing indeed.

When compared the numbers achieved by Puli's trailer with some of the other biggies that was released in recent times, it can be said that Puli  might be the ultimate winner by the time it finishes.

Baahubali's trailer has so far managed to accumulate an unbelievable 10 million views in YouTube but the video has just 29,167 likes. Vikram's much hyped I  boasts of 8.5 million views and an impressive 53,604 likes which makes a good package indeed.

Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal  has the highest number of likes as 66,676 people have hit the like button so far but the video has managed to gather just 4.8 million views.

One such news reported by a leading Tamil daily talks about the actor's recent help to a differently abled person when he approached Ajith at the sets of Thala 56.

It is said that a person with an inability to walk approached the shooting spot with an intention of meeting Ajith. When he got the opportunity to meet the Mankatha star, he has expressed his anguish of not being able to afford himself a wheelchair.

After listening to him patiently, Ajith has instructed him to return to the same spot the next day at 4:00 PM. When the physically challenged man returned, not surprisingly, a brand new wheelchair was waiting for him.

But to his surprise, Ajith has also handed over an undisclosed amount of money before receiving a tight hug from the person who came seeking help.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is currently shooting for Vijay 59 which is being directed byAtlee. The young director's team is said to be clocking some as 40 percent of the movie has already been shot.

Going by the current pace at which this movie is progressing, it can be safely said that Vijay 59 has a good chance of making it to theatres as early as next year and that's exactly what each and every Vijay fan would be hoping for.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa Magic To Be Recreated, Gautham Menon Confirms VTV 2 With Simbu!

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon at a recent press meet has confirmed that he is planning on a sequel to his 2010 super hit movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV), starring Simbu and Trisha.

While promoting his upcoming production venture, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual titledTamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum (Courier Boy Kalyan In Telugu), the famed director has said that VTV 2 is on the cards.

Confirming that Simbu and Trisha will be retained as the lead pair, Gautham has also indicated that the sequel will be made only in Tamil as its Telugu counterpart Ye Maaya Chesave was delivered with a conclusion.

The Yennai Arindhaal director, who is currently working on Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada with Simbu and Manjima Mohan in the lead, is expected to work onVTV 2 after completing his current commitments.

The director turned toward production through his experimental flick Nadunisi Naaygal  and then went on to produce some prominent movies like Veppam, Thanga Meenkal and a Hindi film, Ekk Deewana Tha.

An eighteen minute video has been leaked on the internet which narrates yet another story of Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Puli, according to a source.

Movie buffs have been guessing the story line of Puli  ever since the film was officially launched. The teaser too gave rise to hundreds of guess works, subsequently unearthing a few alleged storylines of the big budget movie.

The latest of such stories has been leaked in the form of a video and going by the tale narrated in it, Vijay's girlfriend, played by Nandita Swetha, is killed by some miscreants. Unable to bear the loss, Vijay decides to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff.

Miraculously, he lands in front of a strange looking palace in an entirely different place which is ruled by its queen, played by Sridevi.

When Vijay's popularity grows in that particular empire, the commander, played by Sudeep, tries to get rid of Vijay by framing him of a false accusation.

Finding it hard to believe such criticisms against Vijay, Sridevi uses her special magical power to read into Vijay's past. When she does so, she realizes that Vijay is none other than her own son who was lost when he was a child.

The fifth theatrical installment from the National Lampoon's Vacation series is loosely inspired by the original 1983 National Lampoon's Vacation film where Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) is trying to re-live a trip which he did with his parents and sisters 30 years ago.

Trying to nix his family and save his eroding marriage, Rusty decides to take a road trip to Walley World with his wife, Debbie (Christina Applegate), and their two sons; James (Skyler Gisondo) who is a shy and anxious older son, Kevin (Steele Stebbins), the selfish younger son. The journey starts on a fun and irritating way with the family hating the road trip even after Rusty tries hard to cheer them up and keep them entertained.

The Griswolds family takes various stops while on their road trip to the Walley World the first being Memphis. In Arkansas, they got to a supposedly hidden spring by a drifter which turns out to be a sewage dump. Upon their return to the car, they see it broken with their cash and luggage stolen inside the car.With no money and clothes, the family stops by in Texas and enters Rusty's sister, Audrey (Leslie Mann), and her husband, Stone Crandall (Chris Hemsworth).

The family stays at Arizona campsite and the next morning almost gets killed by a suicidal rafting guide (Charlie Day) in the Grand Canyon.

 Vacation turns out to be a trauma with a lot of hurdles and complications with losing car, cash, luggage and then tailing down by crazy truck driver (Norman Reedus).

The disappointed Griswolds decide to go fly back home in Chicago after staying at Rusty's parents, Clark (Chevy Chase) and Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo).

Rusty's father Clark coax him and the next morning he decided to drive his family to Walley World to ride their newest coaster, Velociraptor before going to Chicago.

What happens next is a series of drama mixed with comedy and fun-filled rides!

Cast: Ed Helms and Christina Applegate play a funny married couple who try to save their marriage. First Weekend Box Office Predictions: Vaalu Outshines VSOP!

Simbu's Vaalu and Arya's Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga (VSOP) had a worldwide release yesterday (14th August). Now, it is time for us to gauge the first day box office collections of both these movies and also their first weekend collections

While VSOP had a taciturn opening, Vaalu had a huge buzz engulfing it prior to its release which was quite understandable considering the movie's bumpy ride in the last three years.

The movie was also supported well by Simbu fans who were determined to makeVaalu a huge hit. Hence as expected, Vaalu did perform better than VSOP on its first day all over Tamil Nadu, according to trade sources.

However, the Arya-Tamannaah starrer might have a slight advantage over Vaalu in the coming days as it has managed to garner marginally better reviews from fans and critics.

This being the case, trade analysts have indicated that VSOP might do well in A centres while Vaalu might score big in B and C centres, thanks to Simbu's fan base.

But at the end of the day, the box office success of both these movies might depend upon the all important word of mouth, as it is in the case of most of the films if not all.

Conducting a concert on August 15th at The O2 Arena in London, two time Oscar winning musician AR Rahman will wave his magical wand to cast a spell in an attempt to capture thousands of British people. Unlike them, the Mozart of Madras would only be capturing their hearts.
