Popular director and producer V Sekhar, the man behind valuable movies like Koodi Vazhnthal Kodi Nanmai and Viralukketha Veekkam, has been arrested for smuggling idols of Hindu deities worth over 80 crore rupees.
Police force responsible for the arrest has revealed that the filmmaker had smuggled 8 'Panchaloha' idols in addition to providing shelter for men involved in the murky business, according to a report by Times of India.
A special police team is now on the lookout for 11 other men, who according to them, are involved in the illegal trade. Sekhar is currently cooling his heels in the Puzhal central prison after being arrested from his residence in K.K. Nagar where the idols were stacked.
The wheel was set in motion when 8 such idols were stolen from several temples across Tamil Nadu a few months back. When the probe led to the arrest of Dhanalingam, a production manager, several others involved in the racket were exposed including famed director V Sekhar.
His arrest has come across as a shocker to many movie buffs and celebrities since the 55 year old is known for delivering social messages through his movies. Well, it looks like the messages are strictly for his audience.
