Strawberry (U/A): Book Your Tickets Right Away!
Strawberry Plot:
Like any other horror movie, the core plot or objective of this movie is revenge. But as the movie takes us deeper, it makes us realize that it strives to put forward a serious social issue; safety of school going kids.
Based on a real life incident, Strawberry talks about the plight of a father and mother (played by Samuthirakani and Devayani) who lose their child, played by Yuvina Parthavi, due to negligence of a responsible organization like a school.
Pa Vijay plays a taxi driver who experiences paranormal activities and is informed that a spirit wants to communicate with him. The answer to a certain question; what does the spirit wants from him forms the crux of this story.
Performances:
Outstanding performances comes from Samuthirakani and Devayani who have delivered powerful acts, showcasing the struggles faced by parents of school going toddlers.
While Joe Malluri has done his part well, Thambi Ramaiah, Robo Shankar and Imman Annachi have managed to evoke laughter whenever they appear on screen.
Pa Vijay looks largely unconvincing as a hero and the film's female lead, played by Avani Modi, gets yet another clichéd Tamil heroine role. But the real problem is, the girl can hardly emote.
Technicalities:
Special mention goes to the movie's cinematographer MaaraVarman as his angles are unusually fresh for a horror subject. Music director Taj Noor's background score fails to induce fear.
While the movie has a hard hitting message, its execution is nothing more than just passable. Screenplay too gets wayward at places but manages to keep its viewers hooked at many.
Cliched scenes that aims to induce fear appears as if it has been inserted forcefully just to justify the film's genre. But the major drawback of this movie is its graphics which is just not up to the mark.
Overall View:
Strawberry is a decent horror flick which could've been executed in a much better way. But it surely accomplishes in highlighting a common social issue, the hard way.
